Holiday Lights at Moorpark College

Holiday Lights at Moorpark College, the first holiday festival and fund-raiser by the nonprofit Moorpark College Foundation, set for Dec. 3

The inaugural Holiday Lights at Moorpark College festival and fund-raiser is set for Saturday, Dec. 3 on the campus at 7075 Campus Road in Moorpark.  The event is free to attend and will feature children’s activities, entertainment, vendors and more leading up to the grand finale, the illumination of the campus Library Building with thousands of sparkling holiday lights.  Details:

  • Who: Presented by the Moorpark College Foundation and Moorpark College Associated Students
  • When: 2 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011
  • Where: Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark
  • Why: To share holiday cheer, offer shopping opportunities, impress with entertainment and raise funds for the Foundation and Moorpark College students at the same time.
  • How: With the support of the college’s students, faculty, staff and many Foundation supporters and donors, including the Invested.in crowdsourcing website which helped raise nearly $2,000 to fund the lights and messages for the event program.

Vendors confirmed to date include jewelers, candy and ice cream vendors, clothing stores, cosmetics, candle and fitness businesses, and a great variety of food vendors, along with booths for Moorpark College’s Associates Students, Music/Dance, Art/Ceramics and Theater departments, Exotic Animal Training and Management program, MC Outreach and Child Development Center.

The centerpiece of Holiday Lights is illumination of the campus Library Building – which should be visible for miles, including from the 118 freeway.  It will be supported by a festival with vendors, children’s activities, entertainment and special surprises.  Nearby on campus will be the EATM Arctic Lights event, where America’s Teaching Zoo also will light up and feature real snow, activities for children and the family, and educational exhibits.  The evening will be capped with a special free concert at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.  Information: HolidayLightsAtMoorparkCollege.com.
