Fred Arsenault, at 100, had the surprise and delight of a wonderful gift from his son, Ron. Knowing his dad’s 100th was coming up, Ron put out the word on social media that he’d like his dad, a WWII vet, to receive 100 cards for his birthday, which was about a month off. Within a few short weeks, Fred had already received well over 100 cards. Even Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau was encouraging social media followers to send Fred a birthday note.

Fred first served with the Canadian regiment the Prince Edward Island Highlanders, and later with the Cape Breton Highlanders. Among the various campaigns he was part of was the Canadian delegation critical to the liberation of Holland. Not surprising, Fred received many birthday cards from Dutch individuals who still remember with gratitude the Canadian soldiers’ efforts on their behalf. For these and all the other kind people wishing him a Happy 100th, Fred is truly grateful.
