Meet an “Amazing” Who Both Does Good & Fulfills His Dream

Marty took to the air and soared from 10,000 feet in the sky.

Marty Berning, at 90, has volunteered nearly 8,000 hours since 1991 to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles. Ind. and of itself, that feat alone is worth of great applause, but what really stirred Marty’s heart was his ability – finally! – to fulfill a long-standing dream. Ever since Marty was attached to the 101st Airborne in 1950 as part of the medical battalion, he longed to actually jump out of a plane. Even though his basic training included everything else the Airborne went through, the medical battalion never got to jump. So to celebrate his 90th, Marty took to the air and soared from 10,000 feet in the sky! He loved every minute – what a birthday!
