Meet An “Amazing” Who Drums With A Passion
Viola believes her energy and vitality are in large part due to the overall exercise required of a drummer.

Viola Smith, at 106, only recently stepped aside from her Costa Mesa band gig as a percussionist with The Forever Young Band--America’s oldest act of professional entertainers. Viola has been a professional drummer for over 80 years, first with her saxophonist sister in The Coquettes, an all-girl band, then with the all-girl Phil Spitalny’s Hour Of Charm Orchestra.
Later, Viola joined the NBC Symphony orchestra, and even played in the original Broadway production of Cabaret! Viola believes her energy and vitality are in large part due to the overall exercise required of a drummer--and the occasional glass of wine she still enjoys. Ba-da-boom!
