Meet an “Amazing" Who Gave-It-Forward

Peggy Wheatcroft, at 80, didn't know what she wanted to do for her birthday.

(AARP)

Peggy Wheatcroft, at 80, didn’t know what she wanted to do for her birthday, except that she didn’t want a party. But she did want to mark the occasion, and was inspired to give $80 to 80 people (with a slight catch, read on). Peggy’s not a rich woman, but figured she could probably manage to hand out $80 to 80 people over the course of a year. And she did! In each envelope were four $20 bills, a note asking that the recipient give the money to anyone they chose (preferably someone who didn’t expect it), and a stamped postcard for them to share with Peggy their experiences. That was the best part. She learned the wonderful ways they chose to “give-forward”--from gifting a teller about to undergo a double-mastectomy, to an 11 year old industriously mowing a neighbor’s lawn, to purchasing 52 pairs of socks for a homeless shelter. Nothing gives Peggy greater pleasure than re-reading those postcards.
