Meet an “Amazing” Who Is A Law Enforcement Volunteeer

At 82, He Nabs Unauthorized Drivers Parking in Handicapped Spaces

Jerry Epstein, 82, nominated as a “Super Volunteer” at the Ormond Beach Police Department, doesn’t think he’s anything special, but the department disagrees. Apparently, Jerry does far more than his appointed tasks of parking enforcement assist, he helps out wherever and whenever he can; for example, with the evidence technician, sorting out uniforms, riding with new volunteers.

Jerry’s special interest is catching motorists who insist on illegally parking in handicapped spaces: his Dad was handicapped and he remembers all too well how hard it was on his father when no handicapped space was available because a non-handicapped driver had grabbed that space. A volunteer for the past decade, Jerry hopes to continue to volunteer until he reaches 90. A wonderful aspiration.
