Meet An “Amazing” Who Risked Her Life To Save That Of Others
Melpomeni Dina risked her life to save a Jewish family during the Holocaust.

Melpomeni Dina, at 92, was recognized as “Righteous Among the Nations,” Israel’s highest honor to those who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. Along with her recognition, Melpomeni had the immense pleasure of meeting with not only some of the members of the Mordechai family she and her 2 sisters helped save during World War II, but also the many descendants who would never have seen the light of day had it not been for Melpomeni and her sisters’ valiant efforts. When the roundup of Jews in Greece was imminent, the Mordechai family of 7 hid in an attic for a year. When that was no longer possible, Melpomeni and her sisters, at great risk to themselves, sheltered the whole family, sharing with them their meager food rations, giving them medicines, washing their clothes. Someone betrayed the Mordechai family’s location to the Nazis so the sisters rushed the, to the Vermio Mountains in northern Greece. The Mordechais managed to make it to Israel where they reunited and made lives for themselves.
Melpomeni never expected to see any of them again. She didn’t even know if they’d survived. Her joy at seeing them was unbounded.
