Doris Jones, at 90, is on the hunt for undiscovered potentially valuable archeological sites.

Doris Jones, at 90, is on the hunt for undiscovered potentially valuable archeological sites – all from the comfort of her home. Using satellite imagery, she and a host of other “citizen archeologists” meticulously examine pictures of earth taken from space to find what might be archeological sites that are then provided to scientists for possible exploration. The project, GlobalXplorer, launched in 2016 by Dr. Sarah Parcak, has already helped locate 17 potential pyramids, 3,100 settlements and 1,000 lost tombs in Egypt alone.
Doris has viewed and weighed in on 50,000+ tiles (segments of images), indulging her passion for the parallels between paleontology and archeology, discovered during her career as an editor. What does space archeology do for Doris, apart from feed her passion? According to her, it keeps her productive and her mind sharp. Plus, there’s always that thrill of discovery.
