Wendy Russell, at 90, has logged 23 years of continuing volunteer service at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, England. A retired special-ed teacher, Wendy staffs the reception desk twice weekly at the Medical Centre with kindness and efficiency. She helps patients and visitors figure out where to go for what they need.
After her retirement at 60, Wendy taught in Thailand for a couple of years, and on her return to England, found herself adrift, “bored” to use her words. But once she volunteered at Queen’s Medical, she found her place. She has been dedicated to the Centre ever since. Volunteering, she says, very rewarding.
