Meet an “Amazing” Who Wins Jumping Hurdles At Full Tilt

Everett "Doc" Murdock, at 77, is entering his third world championship as a steeplechase competitor.

(Zoe Murdock)

Everett "Doc" Murdock, at 77, is entering his third world championship as a steeplechase competitor, a very intense sport that involves jumping over 5, 30-inch-high hurdles per lap over 2,000 meters, including one that lands the runner squarely in a water pit. And all this in around 10 astonishing minutes. Everett has been running most of his life, but was able to finally fully dedicate his time and effort to competing at the national and international level once he retired from full-time professorship to his current “Professor Emeritus” status.

In addition to steeple-chasing, Everett loves to write, and with his wife, Zoe, conducts a writing workshop at the Ojai Library. Oh, and did I mention he’s musically minded, and also writes songs? Truly a well-rounded individual, who believes that training every day is critical as one gets older. His results speak for themselves. Rock on, Everett.
