Carolina Herrera, 80, showed her Carolina Herrera fashion line for the last time just one year ago amid great applause and fanfare, handing over at the responsibility for its creative directorship so that her brand would endure even without her at the helm. Carolina’s gifted eye for the beautiful and unique resulted in her dressing First Ladies from Jacqueline Onassis to Laura Bush to Michelle Obama, among other celebrities, most notably creating the wedding gown for Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles.
Born in Venezuela where she began her fashion career, Caroline has been awarded honors internationally: the International Center in New York's Award of Excellence, the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, the Gold Medal of the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, Spain's Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts presented by King Juan Carlos I, and the Couture Council’s Award for Artistry of Fashion. And yes, in addition to all that, she also raised four children!
