Maurine Kornfeld, 98, is at the top of her swimming class, holding the World Record in the women's 95-99 age group 800-meter freestyle.

Maurine Kornfeld, at 98, is at the top of her swimming class, holding the World Record in the women’s 95-99 age group 800-meter freestyle, as well as her U.S. Masters Swimming National record in the women’s 95-99 age group 100-meter backstroke, to name but two of her impressive wins. All this after a long career in social work with the Los Angeles Unified School District and various other agencies as a prime mover-and-groover. She only came to swimming in her mid-60s.
Her love of swimming is an understatement, yet her swimming doesn’t keep her from other pursuits. Maurine is both a docent at the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art and a tour-guide at the Los Angeles Metro at L.A.’s downtown’s Union Station. It all adds up to an exciting, challenging and fascinating life
