David Bellamy, at 86, could rest on his considerable laurels, having contributed more than his fair share to the scientific community as a botanist and to the rest of us through the hundreds of television programs he developed and/or hosted on botany, ecology and the environment. But no. His most recent project is a boardwalk, the main feature of Durham Wildlife Trust's Hedleyhope Fell reserve in England. The boardwalk will provide visitors safe access to the reserve.

What’s astonishing about the boardwalk is that about 492 feet is made from recycled plastic bottles. Now there’s a use for our discarded water bottles few of us would ever think of. Among his many honors and awards, David received the cherished OBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), awarded by the Queen, for his contributions to the realm.
