Fidencio Sanchez, at 89, pushed his Popsicle cart, called a "paletería,” through the streets as he had for 23 years, a smile on his face for every one of his customers.

A former neighbor and family friend, Joel Cervantes Macias, visiting his old neighborhood for the first time in many years, saw the bowed-over elderly Fidencio valiantly pushing his paletería, with his smile and gracious attitude. Joel’s heart broke. Joel set up a “Go Fund Me” campaign to help Fidencio and his wife out financially. The campaign earned some $400,000 – more than enough to allow Fidencio to retire, should he ever wish to. Thank you, Joel, for showing us what simple human compassion can accomplish.
