Moorpark Rotary Seeks Sponsors for Civil War Reenactment
The reenactment is designed to educate the public about the historical significance of the Civil War.

The Rotary Club of Moorpark is seeking sponsors for The Blue and The Gray Civil War reenactment, a historical review of the American Civil War. The event will take place the weekend of March 17 and 18 at Hitch Ranch (100 West High St., Moorpark). Hundreds of reenactors from all over the country come to Moorpark each year to participate. Now in its 17th year, the event attracts over 8,000 visitors.
The reenactment is designed to educate the public about the historical significance of the Civil War and its effect on the United States including the abolishment of slavery. Hundreds of reenactors come from around the country to take part each year—all in uniforms and other period clothing. This year, activities include four battle reenactments (with cannon and musket fire), Abraham Lincoln delivering the Gettysburg Address, solider and civilian encampments, sutlers (the general stores of the day), Confederate army surrendering to the Union army and period dancing and music. The featured battle this year is the Battle of Gettysburg.
Proceeds from the event help such nonprofits as the Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark, Girl and Boy Scout troops, the Moorpark Food Pantry and youth sports leagues.
