New Shark School Swim Session Begins Feb. 1 at Conejo YMCA

Young swimmers who are interested in taking their water skills to the next level can sign up for the Conejo Valley YMCA's Shark School.

Young swimmers who are interested in taking their water skills to the next level can sign up for the Conejo Valley YMCA’s Shark School. The monthly sessions, with the next beginning February 1, are designed for beginning and prospective Conejo Y swim team members.

Kids ages five and up who can swim 25 yards freestyle with side breathing and have a functional understanding of backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke are qualified to participate. “They will continue to improve their swimming skills while adding a competition component,” says Terrie Cornetta, aquatics director at the Conejo Y. “They will work on perfecting their stroke technique, build endurance and strive to give it their personal best.”

Shark School is a non-competitive, coach-led practice. Coaches work on competitive strokes, turns, racing strategies, swim meet procedures and competitive swimming terminology. Swimmers meet two times a week, Tuesdays/Thursdays, 4:25 p.m. to 4:55 p.m. or Mondays/Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Shark School prepares swimmers for the YMCA Sharks swim team.
