Plenty of Winter Kids Programs at the Simi YMCA Starting in January

Kids' martial arts, gymnastics, dance and swim lessons are just some of the activities starting up in January at the Simi Valley Family YMCA

Kids’ martial arts, gymnastics, dance and swim lessons are just some of the activities starting up in January at the Simi Valley Family YMCA.

Swim lessons for children starting as young as six months (accompanied by a parent) to older kids who want to master their strokes and breathing techniques are available. The Y also offers swim lessons for children with special needs, developed to provide a safe and secure environment. All classes are held in the Y’s heated indoor swimming pool.

Youth martial arts classes are available designed for youth ready to start their martial arts experience. Classes help build self-esteem, confidence, body coordination, balance and motor skills while students learn the fundamentals of karate and Jujitsu.

Also starting in January are “mommy and me,” tiny tot, beginning/intermediate and team gymnastics classes. Ballet/tap and dance theater programs are also offered.

“Most forecasters are predicting lots of rain in January and February. These YMCA programs will keep kids active regardless of outdoor conditions and away from computer and video games,” says Mitch McManus, the Y’s membership and marketing director.
