Sheriff's Department to Collect Unused, Expired Prescription Drugs
The department is taking part in a national effort to reduce misuse and abuse of unused and expired medicine.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department is collecting unused, expired and unwanted medication Saturday on national Take Back Day, a nationwide effort aimed at combating prescription drug abuse.
The department is asking county residents to drop off the drugs at one of six county drop-off locations, including the Moorpark Police Services Center at 610 Spring Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The service is free and anonymous.

The other county medication drop-off sites are as follow:
Camarillo Police Department, 3701 E. Las Posas Road, Camarillo

Fillmore Police Department, 524 Sespe Ave., Fillmore
Ojai Police Department, 402 S. Ventura St., Ojai
Thousand Oaks Police Department, 2101 E. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks and
Ventura County Sheriff Headquarters Patrol Station, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.
By leaving medications at the designated drop-off points, people for whom the drugs were prescribed can help avoid misuse and abuse of the drugs by those who have access to their medical cabinets. This also helps avoid potential safety hazards caused from throwing medications in the trash or flushing them down a toilet.
At an April drop-off day earier this year, Americans turned in nearly 188 tons of prescription drugs at 5,400 sites.
