Sixth Annual Ventura County Farm Day Seeks Sponsors

Agriculture is Ventura County's number-one industry, yet most people don't think about what it takes to produce the food they eat.

The 6th Annual Ventura Farm Day, set for Saturday, November 3, is seeking sponsors. During Farm Day, more than 20 Ventura County farms and agricultural businesses open their doors and invite the public to learn how their food is grown.

“Agriculture is Ventura County's number-one industry, yet most people don't think about what it takes to produce the food they eat," says Mary Maranville, founder and CEO of Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG), the nonprofit that organizes Farm Day. "By visiting farms on Farm Day, the public is able to make that connection. We are looking for businesses and organizations who want to further agricultural awareness by sponsoring this fun, free experience.”

New this year is Farm Day's kickoff "Farm-to-Table" barbecue on Friday, November 2. The public can enjoy live music, farm-fresh food prepared by celebrated chef Tim Kilcoyne, locally produced craft cocktails, beers and wines, and kids’ activities. The barbecue will take place at Oxnard Historic Farm Park.

About SEEAG

Founded in 2008, Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) is a nonprofit organization that aims to help young students understand the origins of their food by bridging the gap between agriculture and consumption through its agricultural education programming. SEEAG’s “The Farm Lab” program based in Ventura County teaches schoolchildren about the origins of their food and the importance of local farmland by providing schools with classroom agricultural education and free field trips to farms. Through this program, over 20,000 elementary school students in Southern California have increased their understanding of the food journey.
