Update: Man Killed While Advancing on Detectives With Machete, Sheriff Says

The incident took place in the unincorporated area of Moorpark near Hitch Blvd.

At about 2 p.m. Friday, detectives shot and killed a man who advanced on them while armed, the Sheriff’s department said.

The detectives were responding to a call about a man creating a disturbance on the 1700 block of Citrus Drive in the unincorporated area of Moorpark near Hitch Blvd. En route, the detectives were advised the man was armed with a gun, said Capt. Dave Murray of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

According to a statement issued by the department, when the detectives arrived, "the disturbing party, who was now armed with a machete, aggressively advance towards the detectives. The detectives, fearing for their life, shot the disturbing party."

The Ventura County Fire Department and an ambulance were called and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Murray said.

No other people were injured during the incident.

The identities of neither the detectives nor the man have been released. An investigation is ongoing.
