Weather forecast:
1. In tight vote, Mountain View approves 140-unit "Castro Commons" development at Gateway Plaza (losaltosonline.com) — Mountain View has narrowly approved the eight-story, 140‑unit Castro Commons mixed‑use project downtown, including 22 affordable units and new commercial space near Gateway Plaza. The 4‑2 council vote also authorizes selling a portion of Fairmont Avenue and settles a park‑fee dispute with the developer, clearing the way for demolition of existing buildings and construction to move forward.
2. Mountain View moves forward with $4.6M plan to fix eroded banks at Stevens Creek (mv-voice.com) — Mountain View is moving ahead with a $4.6 million project this summer to stabilize eroding Stevens Creek banks along the trail by Whisman Park and a nearby school. City Council unanimously approved extra funding and a cost-sharing deal with the Mountain View Whisman School District, with construction planned from June through October and potential schedule changes if protected fish are found.
3. California neighborhood remains without potable water (kcra.com) — Residents in a Mountain View neighborhood across from Cuesta Park have been under a boil-water order for more than 10 days after cement slurry contaminated a water main, leaving 67 homes without safe drinking water. The city is providing bottled water, hotel rooms, and meals while crews isolate and super-chlorinate the affected line, but final state testing may keep restrictions in place through the weekend.
4. Mountain View housing leader receives achievement award for impact (losaltosonline.com) — A longtime Mountain View housing leader is being honored for decades of work expanding affordable homes, including key policies he advanced while serving the city. Randy Tsuda, now CEO of Alta Housing and a Mountain View Chamber board member, just received a major regional lifetime achievement award recognizing his influence on local and Bay Area housing. His nonprofit continues to operate and grow affordable apartments in Mountain View and nearby cities.
5. Express: City to stabilize Stevens Creek banks (mv-voice.com) — Mountain View is finally moving ahead with long‑planned repairs to stabilize severely eroded Stevens Creek banks, including a stretch near a school. A city newsletter also flags a longtime local restaurant’s uncertain relaunch, rising data‑center power demands, new county mountain‑biking plans, and how residents can find or submit local events.
