LACROSSE: St. Francis Edges Palo Alto

Lancers avenge early season defeat with narrow victory at home.

Behind two late scores, the St. Francis High-Mountain View girls lacrosse team finally put a little blemish on the once spotless Palo Alto High league record.

In an evenly played Santa Clara Valley League matchup held at St. Francis High, the Lancers held off Paly 9-8 Thursday evening in Mt. View.

St. Francis avenged an earlier season loss to Paly on March 17th--Palo Alto won that meeting 7-6 in Palo Alto--taking a 7-5 advantage into the halftime intermission.

The game's pace slowed down in a big way in the second half. Palo Alto bogged down the St. Francis attack and rattled off a string of goals of its own to regain the lead.

Ahead by one with a little over seven minutes to play, a yellow card was issued against the Vikings changing the complexion of the league bout.

St. Francis took advantage of the opportunity, scoring two goals in just over a minute to take a 9-8 lead on the man advantage.

Jacqueline Jordan led the way for the host Lancers with four goals. Taylor Kotas finished with a hat trick in the win.
