Learning-Center Volunteer Accused Of Sex Crimes

Investigators are seeking any additional victims of the Cupertino suspect who worked at Sanyu Learning Center in Mountain View.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – A 26-year-old male from Cupertino, who worked with youngsters as a Mountain View learning-center volunteer, was arrested on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts against children, and police are seeking possible, additional victims, authorities said.

A parent notified the Mountain View Police Department Friday that the individual's son disclosed that a volunteer at Sanyu Learning Center, at 1425 S. Springer Road in Mountain View, "touched him inappropriately over several months while the victim attended the after-school program," the department said.

Another call, meanwhile, came in from a purported second victim, who stated he was inappropriately touched by a volunteer at the after-school program, police said.

The suspect was identified as Yizhuang “John” Liu, who along with volunteer work served on Sanyu's board of directors, police said. He was arrested Saturday and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on six counts of alleged lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 with force and one count of continuous sexual assault over a period longer than three months, police said.

Mountain View detectives said Liu, in addition to interacting with Sanyu youth, also communicated online via a gamer’s social media application known as “Discord.”

"We are extremely concerned there may be additional victims in this case," the department said.

The department added that Sanyu Learning Center personnel are cooperating with the authorities in the investigation.
