Pedestrian Struck By Car On Commercial Avenue Suffers Moderate Head Injuries

The collision was at the East Arques Avenue intersection in Sunnyvale. [Breaking]

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – A woman struck by a car in Sunnyvale this morning suffered moderate head injuries, a city Department of Public Safety spokesman said.

The collision between the pedestrian and vehicle happened on Commercial Avenue at East Arques Avenue around 6:30 a.m., according to public safety Capt. Shawn Ahearn.

Someone driving a black Mazda CX-7 on northbound Commercial Avenue struck the woman, who was left with moderate head injuries that didn't appear to be life-threatening, Ahearn said.

No other injuries were reported, he said.

Neither the driver nor the pedestrian showed any signs of impairment, according to Ahearn.

Investigators do not know if speed was a factor in the collision, which remains under investigation, Ahearn said.

The intersection was closed for about two and a half hours after the accident, he said.
