Body Of Missing Kayaker Found Near San Mateo Bridge

The 38-year-old was with a group that left the Peninsula on Saturday.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – A search crew with the U.S. Coast Guard discovered the body of a missing kayaker early this morning near the San Mateo Bridge.

The kayaker, a 38-year-old man, had gone missing around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, according to U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman Lt. Marcia Medina.

The victim, who was with two other kayakers, left from Oyster Point in South San Francisco. The kayakers then discovered the victim had gone missing near the San Francisco International Airport, Medina said.

With help from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office and the San Mateo County Fire Department, coast guard officials began a search for the man. A helicopter then discovered his body just south of the San Mateo Bridge around 3 a.m. this morning, according to Medina.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of his family.
