Savvy Cellar's April Fools' Gag!

Can classy wine drinkers be replaced with lovable dogs and cats? Savvy Cellar explores the possibility.

It's the first of April, a time to jest and fool the most innocent among us.

That's what the folks over at Savvy Cellar hoped to do this April 1st. Did you get fooled? Here's their blog post from today:

, a fixture on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula for the past six and a half years, the last two years in Downtown Mountain View has decided to shut its doors.

Savvy Cellar Founder & Owner, Jennifer Ayre, indicated “launching and building this wine bar and wine shop was a childhood dream and became a lifelong passion of mine. Deciding to cease operations was not an easy decision. We hope all of our countless loyal customers will understand.”

Savvy Cellar will be converted to an animal center over the next month. As Palo Alto considers shutting its animal shelter due to the discontinuation of funding from Mountain View, who will no longer use the regional facility, Savvy Cellar (tentatively to be renamed "Animal Cellar" or "Animal Depot") hopes to fill the void.
