Sports run deep in Mountain View, and Mountain View High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Spartan uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Mountain View High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


1. Kendal Smith – NFL Running Back (New York Giants, Oakland Raiders)

A standout at Mountain View High School, Smith went on to become one of the most prolific wide receivers in Utah State football history. He earned third-team All-America honors and was named PCAA Offensive Player of the Year following a record-setting senior season. Smith finished his collegiate career as the PCAA’s all-time leader in receiving yards and touchdowns at the time, was drafted in the seventh round of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals and played two seasons in the NFL. 2. Adam Krikorian – Olympic Gold Medal Coach (USA Women’s Water Polo)

Krikorian starred at Mountain View High School before continuing his career at UCLA. He has since become one of the most successful coaches in Olympic history, leading the U.S. Women’s National Water Polo Team to multiple Olympic gold medals and world championships. 3. Hannah Rutherford – NCAA Track & Field Athlete (Stanford University)

Rutherford developed into an elite distance runner at Mountain View High School, where her work ethic and self-driven training approach fueled rapid success. She went on to compete at the collegiate level for Stanford University, representing one of the nation’s top track and field programs while continuing to excel in middle and long-distance events. 4. Bernie Olmos – Prep Football Standout & Wrestling Hall of Fame Inductee

Olmos was part of the legendary Olmos family athletic legacy at Mountain View High School, excelling in football and wrestling. He became a respected figure in California wrestling and was inducted into the California Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2023, recognizing his lasting impact on the sport as both a competitor and contributor.

5. Erik Davis – MLB Pitcher (San Diego Padres)

Davis attended Mountain View High School before playing collegiate baseball at Stanford University. He was selected in the eighth round of the MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres and went on to pitch at the MLB-level, fulfilling a career that spanned elite high school, collegiate and professional baseball.
