Storm-Prep Tips From Mountain View Fire and Public Works

The National Weather Service is expecting a strong storm system to hit California and the Bay Area beginning Wednesday evening and continue with heavy rain and strong winds through Thursdayevening.

Rainfall will begin to taper off on Thursday evening with light showers continuing through Friday. Rainfall totals with this storm are currently projected to range from 1-4 inches in urban areas with wind gusts predicted between 30-40 mph.

· Creek flooding is not very likely from this storm.
· Clogged storm drains are the most likely cause of localized flooding.
· Clear leaves from rain gutters and property drains.

Report flooding, standing water, clogged drains in the street:
· Call the Public Services Division at (650) 903-6329 to report flooding or standing water during normal business hours. (8:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday throughFriday).
· After-hours or on weekends, call the City’s Emergency Communications Center at (650) 903-6395.

Report Downed Trees and Tree Limbs:
· Report downed trees and tree limbs during normal business hours (8:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday throughFriday) by calling the Forestry and Roadway Landscape Division at (650) 903-6273.
· After hours or on weekends, call the City’s Emergency Communications Center at (650) 903-6395.

Sandbags are available free of charge to Mountain View residents and are located at the corner of North Whisman Road and Gladys Avenue.
* Residents need to bring their own shovel fill sandbags; bags and sand are provided.
* Sandbags are best used to divert water around low areas
* Sandbags are most effective when used to prevent flooding from one foot or less of water from entering a home or business through doorways and garage door openings
* Due to the weight of sandbags residents are cautioned to take only 20 to 30 bags per vehicle.
