Suspect Arrested In Connection With 2 Mountain View Assaults

The incidents took place last month near Grant Park Plaza.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of committing two assaults in Mountain View last month, police said. Russell Kershaw, of San Jose, was arrested last Sunday in connection with two assaults near Grant Park Plaza, according to police.

The first assaulted happened on Sept. 26, when Kershaw allegedly punched a 63-year-old man in a parking lot at Phyllis Avenue and Grant Road around 4:50 p.m., police said.

A witness assisted the victim and provided police with a detailed description of the suspect.

Then on Sept. 28, officers responded to a report of an assault around 11:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Grant Road, where a 46 year old was struck in the head and treated by medical personnel at the scene, according to police.

The suspect description in that incident resembled the one in the assault two days before, police said. On Oct. 1, a Santa Clara police officer saw a report of the Mountain View incidents and saw similarities in a case he was working on, according to police.

Investigators were able to identify Kershaw as the suspect, which was confirmed by witnesses in the Mountain View cases, police said.

Kershaw was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of battery with serious bodily injury, dissuading a witness and battery, according to police.
