Unemployment Up in Mountain View, Santa Clara County
The number of people without work in the county and the city in June was up since May.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- While the state's unemployment rate held steady in June at 4.7 percent, the number of people without work in Santa Clara County went up, according to not-seasonally adjusted data released Friday by the California Employment Development Department.
In Santa Clara County, the unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in June, up from 2.9 percent in May, according to EDD's figures.
Mountain View had an unemployment rate of 2.7 percent -- 1,300 of the city's 50,000-strong labor force were unemployed -- in June, compared to 2.2 percent in May, according to EDD's data.

The state's June rate is about 1.5 percentage points below the rate for June 2016 and matches the record low numbers posted in November and December 2000, according to EDD officials.
About 900,000 Californians were unemployed last month, down by about 145,000 people compared with last June, EDD officials said.

The unemployment rate is based on a survey of 5,500 California households and includes nonfarm payroll jobs.
From June 2016 to June 2017, California added roughly 261,400 jobs, a 1.6 percent increase, according to EDD officials.
The national unemployment rate was 4.4 percent in June, an increase of a .1 percentage point.
