'What Should Go Here?' Gets an Upgrade

Later this week we’ll restart a column titled “What should go here?”  In this column we’ll focus on a vacant retail space and ask you what you would like to see there.

We’ve done these articles before on Mountain View Patch, but this time it’ll be to a slightly different end. In the past readers could suggest their ideas in the article’s comment section, but the purpose of the article was mostly for reader engagement and perhaps someone in the community would do something with the suggestions. However, this time we’ll ask you to submit your suggestions on Spotmojo, a website where I’m a co-founder.

Spotmojo will actually use the information to try to attract the businesses that the community wants to Mountain View. We do this in a number of ways including providing the information to commercial property owners, business mentoring groups, and industry groups just to name a few. We also reach out directly to the businesses that people ask for.

I've lived and worked in Mountain View for a few years and there definitely are a lot of restaurants and shops already. But we think there still are some things missing and getting to some of the businesses is inconvenient.

Another one of our goals is to help make neighborhoods more walkable, or at least require less driving. That’s a bit of a tall order for Mountain View, outside of Old Mountain View, but we think if we can get businesses closer to their customers we could drive a little less, save some money and help the environment.
