Today's riddle: What is full of holes but still holds water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. First 2 Detections Of West Nile Virus During Mosquito Season Confirmed In Riverside County: Officials (patch.com) — Health officials have confirmed West Nile virus in Riverside County, including a dead bird found near Spencer's Park in unincorporated Murrieta, though no spraying is planned there yet. Spraying will occur in several Nuevo neighborhoods next Tuesday morning, and residents countywide are urged to reduce mosquito exposure and eliminate standing water to lower infection risk.
2. DUI Checkpoint Planned Friday In Murrieta: What To Know (patch.com) — Murrieta drivers are being warned about a DUI checkpoint set for Friday evening, August 21, at an undisclosed location within the city. Police say the operation targets alcohol, cannabis, and impairing medications, urging residents to plan sober rides to avoid costly DUI penalties and keep local roads safer.
3. Murrieta Exploring Major Expansion Of Its Boundaries, Part Of French Valley Eyed (patch.com subscription) — Murrieta is studying whether to annex nearly 3,900 acres along its northeast border, including the large Spencer's Crossing neighborhood in French Valley. A $91,010 feasibility study will examine if new property and sales tax revenue could support a long-planned sixth fire station and other services without raising tax rates, with decisions expected over the next two years.
4. Murrieta Council Joins With Temecula In Opposition Of Golden Pacific Powerlink Proposed Route (patch.com subscription) — Murrieta's City Council has formally opposed the current Segment 4 route of SDG&E's proposed Golden Pacific Powerlink, warning it could harm Temecula and the broader Southwest Riverside region that Murrieta depends on. City leaders support grid improvements but want the line shifted away from dense communities, wildfire-prone areas, and key transportation corridors, and are urging SDG&E to pursue less developed alternatives.
5. Hero nominations sought for Murrieta Field of Honor (pressenterprise.com) — Nominations are now open to honor local veterans and first responders at this November's Murrieta Field of Honor, when more than 2,000 flags will fill Town Square Park. Riverside County residents can nominate individuals or organizations by emailing bios, photos, and contact details to the Rotary Club of Murrieta by Sept. 7.
