I-15 Road Hazards Disrupt Morning Traffic Across The Inland Empire
Drivers on Riverside County's major throughway encountered obstacles on Wednesday.
INLAND EMPIRE, CA — Drivers on I-15 through the Inland Empire encountered drive-time slowing on Wednesday morning due to objects in the road and minor crashes, California Highway Patrol dispatchers say.
At 8:30 a.m., northbound drivers on I-15 at Clinton Keith Road reported numerous trash bags filled with "pretty solid items" covering the #3 lanes. Drivers were forced to navigate around the objects as Caltrans cleanup crews were called to the scene.
Lake Mathews drivers dealt with a splintered crate in the roadway at La Sierra Avenue and Lake Knoll Parkway, according to the CHP. That hazard was reported at 8:25 a.m. and remained as of 9 a.m.
Further north, also at 8:30 a.m., a silver Dodge Charger was reported stalled in the fast lane on I-10 eastbound, just west of I-15, with tow trucks called to the scene. A westbound I-10 hazard was reported at 9 a.m., just east of Central Avenue, when a 4x8 piece of plywood blew off a vehicle and landed in the #2 lane. Drivers slowed as they navigated around the obstacle.
Drivers heading into the Inland Empire on southbound I-15 encountered several issues on Wednesday morning.
Just after 8:45 a.m., drivers reported a ladder in the #4 lane on the I-15 northbound just south of Duncan Canyon Road, causing slowing as drivers navigated the obstacle. That ladder was collected and removed by 9 a.m.
More slowing through the Cajon Pass, this time for southbound I-15 drivers who encountered a broken-down semi-truck just south of the Escape Ramp. A white tractor truck stalled in the #3 lane, and another semi-truck was broken down in the #2 lane, creating a traffic snarl through the Cajon Pass, according to the CHP. That was alleviated by 8:30 a.m.
Earlier, drivers on the 91 freeway westbound, just east of Adams Street, swerved to avoid the body of a dog in the HOV lane. CHP officers ran a traffic break to clear those lanes, which reopened as of 8:35 a.m.
As rush hour concluded, those hazards were cleared. Be safe and observant on the roadways.
