MURRIETA, CA — Hot weather in Murrieta and across Riverside County will continue over the weekend with elevated heat risk through Sunday, the National Weather Service said Friday.

A heat advisory is in place through 9 p.m. Sunday, with high temperatures in Murrieta hovering around 101, according to the agency.

Monsoonal moisture has brought higher humidity to the area along with thunderstorms in the mountains, but drier weather starts Saturday with a gradual cooling trend expected next week, the NWS reported.

Amid the heat advisory, the agency is advising residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

"Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances," the NWS urged.

For those who do venture outdoors, the NWS said to do any strenuous activities in the early morning or evening.

"Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke," the agency advised. "Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible."
