Murrieta Police Find Armed Man High on Meth in Traffic Stop

The driver was initially pulled over for a vehicle code violation, according to police.

A traffic stop led police to a driver allegedly high on methamphetamine and carrying a loaded pistol inside his car this weekend.

An officer on patrol at 8:33 a.m. Saturday stopped the driver of a Honda Civic for a vehicle code violation at the corner of Clinton Keith and McElwain roads, Murrieta police Sgt. Dave Baca said.

The driver, identified as Xavier Orozco III, showed signs of being under the influence and told the officer he swallowed methamphetamine earlier. Orozco also admitted to having .6 grams of the drug inside a pocket, Baca said.

A search of Orozco’s car uncovered a loaded Ruger MK .22 caliber handgun and a plastic bag of shaved keys, which are typically used to steal cars, Baca said.

Orozco was arrested for suspicion of several violations that included possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of drugs and possession of burglary tools, Baca said.
