Murrieta Valley High School this morning was on a temporary lockdown as police investigated "a minor threat" made at the school, according to police, and described as a bomb threat by school officials.
The lockdown began at 10:30 a.m. as "a precautionary measure after school staff received a phone call claiming there was a bomb at the school," the high school reported on social media.
After the Murrieta Police Department Police searched the campus, it was deemed safe as no explosives were found, the threat was deemed not credible and the lockdown was lifted, officials said
"Our first priority is the safety of our students and staff," school officials said. "In order for our school to remain safe, we always follow our protocol as a precautionary measure. Thank you for your continued support and understanding."
Murrieta police announced the lockdown was lifted at about 11 a.m., but released no additional details. MVHS staff said the police are continuing to investigate the threat.
"We received a bomb threat phone call. It is believed that we know who the call came from and the threat lacked validity," MVHS principal Mark Pettengill said. "MPD did a search on campus as a precaution and will follow up with the individual. All CLEAR!"
