Murrieta Valley USD Seeks Community's Input On New Superintendent

The district is in the process of hiring its next superintendent and is inviting the community to be a part of the recruitment process.

MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Valley Unified School District board wants to hear from community members on what qualities they think the district's next superintendent should have.

The district has begun the process of hiring a new leader following the announcement last fall that MVUSD Superintendent Patrick Kelley would retire at the end of the 2021-22 school year to spend more time with family.

At a regularly scheduled Jan. 5 public meeting, the MVUSD board set a timeline for the process, with a target of having a new superintendent in place by July 1.

During the meeting, the board also announced public input opportunities — including an anonymous online questionnaire that is open from Jan. 14-24. The questionnaire provides community members with an opportunity to tell the board what qualities and skillsets should be sought in Kelley's replacement.

“Our goal is to successfully find the superintendent who best fits our district. To do that we need our community’s input,” said MVUSD Board President Kris Thomasian.

The online questionnaire is brief and available here or at www.murrieta.k12.ca.us/SuptSearch.

Additionally, Leadership Associates, the executive search firm hired by the board to find the district's next superintendent, will be hosting a virtual community forum from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Jan. 19. The one-hour event will be an opportunity for the public to provide input and learn more about the superintendent search process, district officials said.

A public link will be posted on the MVUSD website for interested community members who want to join the Jan. 19 forum.
