Murrieta Valley USD Trustee Ken Dickson Announces Resignation

Dickson has served as an MVUSD board trustee for 24 years.

MURRIETA, CA — A vacancy will soon open on the Murrieta Valley Unified School District's Board of Education. After 24 years as an MVUSD Board Trustee, Kenneth Dickson will resign from his Area 3 position effective Nov. 21.

Now in his early 70s, Dickson is retiring and moving east.

Dickson announced his resignation during the Sept. 23 MVUSD board meeting.

“Trustee Dickson’s contribution and service to the Murrieta community has been steadfast and his expertise will be greatly missed," MVUSD Board President Linda Lunn said. "We wish him well in his retirement and relocation to the East Coast.”

Dickson was raised on a Kansas farm, and after attending college in his home state went on to pursue law at Duke University. He joined the U.S. Air Force, married an educator, had two kids, served in the Air Force reserves, and spent most of his career as a judge advocate, primarily handling government contracts. He is a longtime Murrieta resident.

MVUSD Superintendent Patrick Kelley praised Dickson.

“Trustee Dickson’s kindness, wisdom, and love for the school district have been a foundational part of the success for MVUSD over many years. We wish Ken and his wife, Susan, a safe relocation and an abundance of special moments with family. I know I speak for many when I say he will be truly missed.”

The board discussed options to fill Dickson's Area 3 post and unanimously agreed to appoint someone who will be seated until Nov. 2022. At that time, the appointed trustee can seek election to fill the remainder of the term through November 2024.

The district is now accepting applications from qualified candidates who would like to be considered for the impending vacancy. Applications are due by noon on Oct. 12.

Qualified candidates must be:

1. A California registered voter residing within the Trustee Area 3 boundaries of MVUSD

2. At least 18 years of age

3. Not disqualified by the constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office

4. Not an employee of MVUSD

Application packets are available online on the MVUSD website: www.murrieta.k12.ca.us/BOEvacancy OR in person at the MVUSD District Support Center at 41870 McAlby Court, Murrieta between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Completed application packets may be mailed via U.S. postal service or delivered in person to the District Support Center, 41870 McAlby Court, Murrieta. Applications may also be submitted via email to Julie Diaz at jadiaz@murrieta.k12.ca.us.
