In addition to her pregnancy, Gonzalez was the mother of a 6-month-old baby. The child was also reported missing at the time but eventually found safe, according to the sheriff's department. Further details were not disclosed.

Foul play was suspected and the sheriff department's Central Homicide assumed the investigation.

McIntire was arrested last week in the 500 block of Palm Avenue in Beaumont. His relationship to Gonzalez, if any, was not clear and a motive in the case was not disclosed.

According to court records, the defendant has prior convictions for domestic violence and illegal possession of a loaded firearm in public.

The search for Gonzalez's body is ongoing.
