Neither driver in the crash suffered serious injuries, according to authorities. The cause of the collision is under investigation. Investigators did not say whether intoxication was considered a factor in the crash, and no arrests have been announced.
It's the second time in a year that the Winchester community mourned the car-crash death of a 17-year-old. In 2021, Logan Edwards, a 17-year-old Winchester boy, was killed in a Moreno Valley crash after a driver ran through a stop sign, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Speed was considered a factor in that crash, and a Moreno Valley woman was later arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Edwards was a high school junior and who served in his school's drum line, The Press-Enterprise reported at the time. His death rattled the community and prompted an outpouring of support for his family.
