Vista Murrieta Asks Head Football Coach To Step Down
School officials say they are looking for "a change in leadership."

MURRIETA, CA — Vista Murrieta High School's football coach, David Olson, is being asked to step down from his role with the team, school district officials announced Thursday. The head coach has served at the helm of the Broncos since February 2016.
"I respect David’s passion for the game and I am grateful for his efforts and commitment to his players and the program," VMHS Principal Mick Wager said in a released statement. "However, at this point, we believe it is in the best interest of the program to seek a change in leadership for the football program."
As for why they school is seeking a change, district officials tell Patch, "They're looking for new leadership to go in a different direction for the team."

Olson will continue teaching AP Government classes at the high school, according to Murrieta Valley Unified School District. A replacement football coach has not been named.
"We expect to see a highly competitive pool of candidates for this exciting opportunity," Assistant Superintendent of Human Recourses Darren Daniel said.
