Youth, Recreational Team Sports On Hold In Riverside County

Uncertainty looms for student-athletes hoping to play sports when the school year begins.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — The question about what will happen with youth sports when school starts up in the fall remains unanswered. Riverside County sent out a reminder Friday that said recreational team sports, including youth sports, amid coronavirus are still not allowed by the state nor Riverside County.

"Currently, the California Department of Public Health has determined that no recreational team sports are permitted, and that the fitness guidance used for gyms and other fitness facilities is not for use for team sports activities," the county advised.

Gyms were allowed to reopen countywide on June 12, but the state has issued stringent safety protocols for them to follow.
