1 Killed In Rollover Crash Near Napa-Sonoma County Line

Three others were injured in the crash that occurred during rainy conditions, the California Highway Patrol said.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — Authorities identified have identified a 25-year-old woman killed Monday morning in a rollover crash near the Napa-Sonoma county line as roadways in the North Bay were wet from rain. Edelmira Ruiz-Lopez, of Santa Rosa, died at 6:54 a.m. Monday in the 6500 block of Dry Creek Road, west of Wall Road, in Napa County, according to the California Highway Patrol and Napa County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.

Ruiz-Lopez was one of four passengers in a white 2003 Chevrolet Suburban that left the roadway at 6:02 a.m, went down a hillside and overturned. CHP investigators determined the driver, a 40-year-old Windsor man, was traveling at a speed that was unsafe for the conditions, which caused him to lose control of the SUV, Renspurger said.

"[Ruiz-Lopez] was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected through a blown-out window from the vehicle overturning," Renspurger said. "All other people were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. The ejected passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene."

The other passengers — three Santa Rosa men ages 29, 45 and 46 — suffered minor injuries and were taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa.

The driver was not injured, Renspurger said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, according to the CHP.

Henry Wofford, spokesman for the Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office, said Ruiz-Lopez was formerly of Arizona but most recently lived in Santa Rosa.
