2 Arrested, 8 Cited During Napa PD's Super Bowl Sunday DUI Patrol

In one of the arrests, an alert citizen reported a possible DUI driver and provided a vehicle description, NPD Sgt. Kristofer Jenny said.

NAPA, CA — The Napa Police Department arrested two drivers on suspicion of DUI while conducting a DUI saturation patrol Sunday after the Super Bowl, a Napa police sergeant said.

In one of the arrests, an alert citizen reported a possible DUI driver and provided a vehicle description, Traffic Sgt. Kristofer Jenny said. Officers located the vehicle and determined the driver, a 54-year-old Napa man, was under the influence of alcohol, the sergeant said.

In the second arrest, officers conducted a vehicle stop for a traffic violation and determined the driver, a 22-year-old Napa man, was under the influence of alcohol, Jenny said.

Both drivers were booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections.

Napa PD also made 28 vehicle enforcement stops during the saturation patrol, citing three people for driving without a license or on a suspended or revoked license, the sergeant said.

Another driver was cited for possession of marijuana and four other citations were issued for vehicle code violations, Jenny said.

Funding for the DUI saturation patrol was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Napa Police Department is conducting another DUI saturation patrol on St. Patrick's Day, Sunday, March 17.

"Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500," Jenny said. "This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses not to mention possible jail time."

"DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze," the sergeant added.

"Prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, can impair and result in a DUI," Jenny said. "Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs."
