Alta Fire In Napa 50 Percent Contained

Cal Fire reports that the Alta Fire has burned 14.07 acres of woodland.

NAPA VALLEY, CA — CAL FIRE is battling a vegetation fire near the 1600 block of Wooden Valley Road in Napa County, the agency reported Tuesday afternoon.

The Alta Fire has charred 14.07 acres but forward progress has been stopped and the blaze was 50 percent as of 6 p.m.

Wooden Valley Road was expected to remain closed from Highway 121 to Wooden Valley Cross for a couple of hours for firefighter safety as they continue work along the road, CAL FIRE said at 6 p.m.

Initially, eight fire engines, four air tankers, two helicopters, two dozers, five water tenders and four hand crews were dispatched to the fire. After an effective air battle, the aircraft were released from the firefight.

Ground crews were working to put a containment line all the way around the fire.

The fire burned grass-oak woodland.

CAL FIRE first reported the incident on social media at 3:48 p.m.

The cause of the fire has not been announced.

No injuries have been reported and no structures have been damaged.
