NAPA VALLEY, CA — A motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon on eastbound Highway 12 near Kelly Road has killed one person.
The California Highway Patrol Napa office is investigating what led to the deadly crash that backed up traffic across the area.
CHP reported the collision at about 1:52 p.m. Officers shut down all eastbound lanes of Highway 12 east of Kelly Road.
Aerial footage showed CHP moving a motorcycle that had come to rest in the traffic lanes.
Authorities directed motorists off Highway 12 and onto Highway 29, then toward American Canyon Road and Interstate 80, as traffic came to a standstill.
CHP Spokesman Marc Renspurger confirmed that one person died in the crash, but authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim or details about what caused the collision.
Traffic remained blocked for more than an hour as investigators worked the scene. By 3:23 p.m., CHP announced that eastbound Highway 12 had reopened and traffic flow resumed.
Earlier today another crash involving an SUV that slammed into a cement truck backed up Highway 12.
