Uncork your next great read at the Napa Valley Book Festival, presented by the Napa Valley Writers branch of the California Writers Club. The free event is open to everyone and brings together more than 70 authors, with programming for readers of all ages and interests from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Two featured authors will speak and sign their books. At 11:15 AM, San Francisco Chronicle outdoors writer emeritus Tom Stienstra presents. His latest book, Heaven Delayed: One Man’s Survival of Sixteen Near-Death Encounters, was published in May and chronicles his lifetime of extraordinary adventures and brushes with death, from a near-drowning on a Bigfoot expedition to six brain surgeries to treat Stage 4 cancer. At 1:00 PM, Rex Pickett, critically acclaimed author of Sideways, presents “The Fiction Writing Process: From the Blank Page to Publication” to explore finding an original voice, navigating rejection, and persevering through the publishing process. Pickett draws from his own experiences as the author of Sideways, which was adapted into the Academy Award-winning film, as well as its three sequels and his other works.
