CHP officials say a driver they initially believed died as a result of a collision instead died of a gunshot wound.
LAKE COUNTY, CA — The California Highway Patrol asked for the public's help Thursday in locating a homicide suspect. According to the CHP, officers investigated a fatal solo-vehicle traffic collision Feb. 21 on state Highway 20 near mile marker 42.2 in Lake County. Investigators initially believed the driver, Patrick Weber, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.
As the investigation continued, however, it was determined Weber died from a gunshot wound, according to Investigator Slates of CHP's Ukiah Area.
CHP investigators have discovered a person of interest and a vehicle associated with this case, Slates said, and are hoping members of the public can help identify and locate the person and/or the vehicle.
