Earthquake, Aftershocks Shake Napa Valley: Did You Feel It?

NAPA VALLEY, CA — An earthquake centered just northeast of Angwin jolted the upper Napa Valley today, sending light shaking through nearby communities including St. Helena and Calistoga.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck at 2:30 p.m. at a depth of about 3.9 miles.

A set of temblors followed. The first aftershock, with a 1.4-magnitude, rippled through the area at 2:31 p.m. A third 2.6-magnitude quake hit at 2:33 p.m. Both were in the same area.

The first quake originated roughly 5 miles northeast of St. Helena and about 7 miles southeast of Calistoga. The epicenter sits in the hills between the two Napa County communities.

The relatively shallow depth of about 3.9 miles made the shaking more noticeable near the epicenter.

No immediate reports of injuries or significant damage were available.
