Gas Down 11 Cents Per Gallon Since Memorial Day

While prices dropped, they are still the highest in four years during August, AAA said.

BAY AREA, CA – Average gas prices in California are down more than 11 cents since Memorial Day, according to AAA of Northern California.

Prices hit their highest point of the year on June 3, when the state average was $3.74. At present, however, the state average is just $3.62.

Demand seems to have flattened out in July for the first time since 2012, however, dropping prices despite forecasts anticipating average prices of $4.

In San Francisco, consumers are paying an average of $3.84 per gallon - but average prices Bay Area-wide are currently at $3.68.

Prices in Oakland and Monterey are averaging $3.67, but some of the lowest prices in the region can be found in Vallejo where drivers are paying $3.77 per gallon on average.

While prices have dropped, they are still the highest in August in four years.

"More people are working and traveling, and that means more cars on the road and higher fuel prices," AAA Northern California spokesman Michael Blasky said Monday in a statement.
